Foursquare Convocation is the 28th release, Mark XXVIII, in the Exceptional Cask Selection from the Foursquare Rum Distillery in Barbados. A single blended rum of two 14-year-old rums, one aged in ex-bourbon casks and one in ex-Madeira casks, it is bottled at cask strength, 62% ABV.
Single blended rum combines pot-still and column-still rums from one distillery, and Foursquare's Exceptional Cask Selection has become one of the most sought-after series in rum. The combination of intense tropical maturation and Madeira casks gives Convocation a big, round and unctuous profile, balancing deep wood tannins with vibrant fruit sweetness.
The nose brings vanilla, toasted coconut and fresh berries, with pipe tobacco, bergamot and a nutty, oxidative character. On the palate come caramelised grapefruit peel, roasted macadamia, blackberry cobbler and pineapple with a chewy, toffee-like texture, and the finish is long and elegant, with caramel leaning toward coffee, bright citrus and velvety oak.
The classic Exceptional Cask Selection label makes it a collectable gift for rum enthusiasts.
Add a few drops of water to open the fruit.
Aged rum is one of the most diverse spirits in the world, shaped by the sugarcane, the still and the warm climates where it matures, which speed up the interaction between spirit and wood.
