This Garrison Brothers Single Barrel Cask Strength is a Texas straight bourbon drawn from one hand-selected barrel and bottled uncut and unfiltered at 61.1% ABV, or 122.2 proof. It was chosen as a private store pick, so no other bottle anywhere tastes quite the same.
Garrison Brothers, in Hye in the Texas Hill Country, is Texas' first and oldest legal whiskey distillery. Founded by Dan Garrison, it makes its bourbon from grain to glass and ages it under the fierce Texas sun, where scorching summers and sudden cold snaps drive the spirit deep into the oak and draw out bold, concentrated flavour, at the cost of a large share lost to evaporation.
Each single barrel has its own personality, but Garrison Brothers' house character runs to charred oak and baking spice, with caramel and toffee, chocolate and cacao, roasted apple, leather and spice, finishing long and dry. At full cask strength, a few drops of water open up the fruit and sweetness.
The bottle is sealed in grey wax with the distillery's signature silver star, a fine gift for any bourbon collector.
Taste it neat, then add water a few drops at a time to find your perfect balance.
Bourbon must be made in the United States from a mash of at least 51% corn and aged in new charred oak containers, and straight bourbon must be aged at least two years. Those rules give bourbon its characteristic sweetness, with caramel and vanilla drawn from the charred barrels.
