Garrison Brothers Single Barrel is a Texas straight bourbon whiskey bottled one barrel at a time at 94 proof (47% ABV), from the distillery in Hye, Texas.
Garrison Brothers was established in 2006 as the first legal bourbon distillery in Texas. Its sweet mash bill of corn, soft red winter wheat and malted barley is aged for at least three years in new American white oak barrels under the searing Texas heat. The interaction of each barrel, the climate and the whiskey inside means that no two barrels are exactly alike, and every single barrel has its own distinct personality and character.
The bourbon has a beautiful dark copper colour and long legs. The nose is pronounced, delivering butterscotch, oak, vanilla and nutmeg, a warm and inviting start, while sweet oak drives the taste.
Hand-selected and bottled from one barrel, it makes a fine gift for bourbon lovers.
Enjoy it neat or in a classic cocktail.
Bourbon must be made in the United States from a mash of at least 51% corn and aged in new charred oak containers, and straight bourbon must be aged at least two years. Those rules give bourbon its characteristic sweetness, with caramel and vanilla drawn from the charred barrels.
Bourbon must be made in the United States from a mash of at least 51% corn and aged in new charred oak containers; to be called straight, it must be aged at least two years and bottled with nothing added but water.
The extreme heat of the Texas Hill Country pushes whiskey deep into the wood of the barrel and draws it back out quickly, so Texas bourbon takes on rich oak and caramel character in fewer years than whiskey aged in cooler climates.
Wheat in place of rye as the secondary grain tends to give a softer, sweeter bourbon, which balances the bold oak influence of the Texas climate.
