Gema Añejo Talavera is a super-premium 100% agave añejo tequila aged a year and a half in white oak barrels and presented in a Talavera-style painted ceramic bottle, bottled at 40% ABV.
Produced by Tequilera Hacienda La Cofradía (NOM 1137) in the town of Tequila, Jalisco, it balances traditional Mexican craftsmanship with meticulous ageing. Talavera takes its name from the design painted on the bottle, which follows the tradition of Mexico's famous glazed Talavera pottery.
Eighteen months in white oak give this añejo depth and smoothness, a delight to the palate for slow sipping.
Its collectible ceramic decanter makes it a show-stopping gift.
Sip it neat or over a single large ice cube.
Añejo tequila is aged between one and three years in oak barrels of no more than 600 litres, long enough to add colour, sweetness and spice while keeping the character of the agave, which makes it a natural sipping tequila.
Tequila can only be made from blue Weber agave in five designated Mexican states, chiefly Jalisco, and the finest bottlings are made from 100% agave. Sipping tequila is best enjoyed from a narrow-rimmed glass that concentrates the aromas, at room temperature and without salt or lime, so the character of the agave and the barrel can come through.
Tequila must be made from blue Weber agave grown in designated areas of Mexico, chiefly Jalisco, and 100% agave tequilas use no other sugars in fermentation.
An añejo is aged between one and three years in oak barrels of no more than 600 litres, long enough to take on amber colour and notes of vanilla, caramel and wood while keeping the agave at its heart.
Talavera pottery, a tin-glazed earthenware with bright blue and polychrome designs, has been made in the Mexican state of Puebla since colonial times.
