Glen Scotia 10 Year Old Peated is a Campbeltown single malt made with peat sourced from North-East Scotland and matured in first-fill bourbon barrels, giving a subtly smoky, maritime character.
Glen Scotia's story begins in 1832 on the Kintyre Peninsula. Campbeltown was once the whisky capital of the world, with more than thirty distilleries in the Victorian era; today it is the smallest whisky region in Scotland and home to only three working distilleries, of which Glen Scotia is one. The distillery still keeps much of its original design.
This peated expression is impeccably balanced. The nose is rich with smouldering peat, briny notes, baked apple and clove. On the palate, lemon, vanilla syrup and freshly cut barley unfold together, and the long, drying finish carries gentle sweet peat and a touch of black pepper.
A classic Campbeltown malt with a wisp of smoke, it makes a fine gift for peat lovers and newcomers alike.
Enjoy it neat or with a drop of water.
Campbeltown single malts are known for a distinctive character that brings together fruit, a gentle oiliness and a salty, maritime edge from the town's position on the coast of the Kintyre Peninsula.
First-fill bourbon barrels have held bourbon only once before, so they give the whisky plenty of vanilla and sweet oak, which here balances the smoke from the peated malt.
Peating the malted barley means drying it over peat smoke, which carries phenolic, smoky notes into the spirit; in Glen Scotia's case the result is a gentle smoke rather than a heavy one.
