Glenmorangie Triple Cask Reserve is a rich and subtly spiced Highland single malt, triple matured by marrying whisky from three carefully chosen cask types, and bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof).
Inspired by the natural splendor of the Highlands, Glenmorangie's whisky makers united bourbon casks and new charred oak with rye whiskey casks, which are rarely used in the Scotch whisky industry, to bring new dimensions to the distillery's range. Launched in 2024 as a new addition to the core range, it takes the famous north Highland distillery's spirit in a slightly different direction, adding a delicious interplay between sweet and spicy notes to the classic Glenmorangie character.
The whisky abounds with notes of pear, candied orange, honeysuckle and clove. Ripe plums and pears, golden syrup and sweet cinnamon show on the palate, with a hint of marzipan and the gentlest tingle of pepper, and the texture is oily and rich. The finish brings bitter chocolate surrounded by spice.
An approachable, flavorful way into Glenmorangie.
This is not the first time Glenmorangie has worked with ex-rye casks: Spìos, a 2018 Private Edition, was matured in them. Triple Cask Reserve brings that idea into the core range at an accessible price.
The rye casks also lend an almost refreshing note, something like peppermint, while cherry liqueur chocolates and coffee notes add depth.
