Gran Centenario Reposado is a 100% blue Weber agave tequila from the highlands of Jalisco, rested in new oak casks and finished with the house's Selección Suave blending, bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV).
Gran Centenario has been crafted in small batches in the highlands of Jalisco since 1857, when it was founded by tavern owner Lázaro Gallardo, remembered as the first maestro tequilero, who began making 100% agave tequila. It remains one of Mexico's classic tequila brands.
Gallardo also established the proprietary Selección Suave process that the house still uses: after resting, the tequila is married with older tequila reserves, which adds extraordinary smoothness and complexity beyond the cask rest alone. That is why this reposado drinks rounder and sweeter than its age suggests.
Rested in new oak casks for the perfect balance of taste and smoothness, it offers a touch of fruit on the nose, sweet tones of cooked agave and light hints of oak, toasted almonds, vanilla and clove, with an easy, balanced finish.
Versatile and easy to sip, it is great neat or on the rocks, and a natural for a Margarita, a Paloma or a Tequila Sunrise.
Reposado, meaning rested, is tequila aged between two months and a year in oak, which gives it a pale gold colour and a gentle touch of wood while keeping the agave bright and lively.
Tequila can only be made from blue Weber agave in five designated Mexican states, chiefly Jalisco, and the finest bottlings are made from 100% agave. Sipping tequila is best enjoyed from a narrow-rimmed glass that concentrates the aromas, at room temperature and without salt or lime, so the character of the agave and the barrel can come through.
