Gran Reserva de Don Alberto Blanco is a 100% blue Weber agave tequila from El Arenal, Jalisco, made at Tequilera Puerta de Hierro (NOM 1477) and bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV).
The tequila is named for Alberto Partida, father of Gildardo Partida Meléndrez, owner of the distillery and of Gran Reserva de Don Alberto. The agave is slowly cooked in traditional ovens to bring out its natural sweetness, crushed by roller mill and fermented in stainless steel. Unusually, the Blanco is a blend of unaged white tequila with a touch of extra añejo, which gives it a rich texture while staying a bright, crystal-clear blanco.
Complex and well structured, it pairs robust cooked agave with subtle wood elements and a delicate hint of smoke over a clean mineral backbone, with an earthy depth that nods toward mezcal.
The frosted agave bottle with its blue wax seal makes it an elegant gift.
Blanco tequila is bottled unaged or rested for less than two months, so it shows the agave at its purest: bright, peppery and fresh. It is the classic choice for margaritas and palomas, and a good blanco is just as rewarding sipped neat.
Tequila can only be made from blue Weber agave in five designated Mexican states, chiefly Jalisco, and the finest bottlings are made from 100% agave. Sipping tequila is best enjoyed from a narrow-rimmed glass that concentrates the aromas, at room temperature and without salt or lime, so the character of the agave and the barrel can come through.
