Green Spot Château Léoville Barton is a single pot still Irish whiskey initially matured in traditional sherry and bourbon casks, then finished for 12 to 24 months in French oak wine casks from the renowned Château Léoville Barton in Bordeaux, bottled at 46% ABV without chill filtration.
Green Spot is a single pot still Irish whiskey from Midleton Distillery in County Cork, made from a mash of malted and unmalted barley, a style found only in Ireland. It began life with Mitchell & Son, Dublin wine merchants since 1805, who from 1887 sent their empty wine, sherry and port casks to the distillery to be filled with whiskey and bottled under their own label. This was the first single pot still Irish whiskey finished in Bordeaux casks.
The French oak drives the initial aroma, with crisp woodland notes added to the spicy pot still character, while the wine seasoning brings a floral perfume and ripe berries to the archetypal orchard fruits. The taste is a very satisfying balance of oak and spices in Green Spot's familiar mouth-coating style.
A collaboration between Irish whiskey and Bordeaux wine heritage, it makes a refined gift.
Enjoy it neat or with a drop of water.
