Hamilton 114 Navy Strength Rum is a blend of high-proof Jamaican pot still rum from Worthy Park Estate and aged Guyanese Demerara rum, bottled at navy strength, 114 proof (57% ABV), with no added sugar.
Hamilton rums come from Ed Hamilton, the Minister of Rum, a true scholar and ambassador of the spirit whose brand is built on quality, accessibility and transparency. He created this navy strength blend to meet bartenders' demand for a more approachable navy strength option.
The blend is 40% high-proof Jamaican pot still rum from Worthy Park Estate and 60% high-proof aged Guyanese rum from Demerara Distillers. After they are imported, the two rums arrive at the Five & 20 Distillery in Westfield, New York, where they are combined and stirred slowly for 48 hours before being diluted to 114 proof with filtered well water.
It brings a boatload of Jamaican funk balanced by just the right amount of Demerara richness: exotic spice, overripe banana, tobacco and smoky oak with dried fruit, stone fruit and honey, and a long, warming finish of oak and spice. Navy strength honors the British Royal Navy tradition, in which rum was proof-tested with gunpowder to make sure it had not been watered down; at 57% ABV, it passes exactly at the minimum.
