Hampden Estate The Maverick is a limited edition Pure Single Jamaican Rum created by Christelle Harris and Matthew Hann to celebrate the birth of their son, Maverick, in May 2024. Double retort pot still rum, tropically aged in ex-bourbon barrels, it is bottled at 59% ABV, with 1,500 bottles released.
Hampden is one of Jamaica's most famous distilleries, celebrated for its intensely flavourful, high-ester rums made from long, wild fermentations. The Maverick blends three of its marques: 50% HGML from 2018, 40% LFCH from 2020 and 10% C<>H from 2021, bringing together some of the estate's most iconic styles.
On the nose come roasted pineapple, cane sugar and manuka honey, with banana and the savoury edge of black olive. The palate brings dark chocolate, grilled coconut and star anise, with dried meat and mango, and the finish is long, with charred oak, cacao and caramelised molasses. It is big on tropical fruit, with its strength remarkably well integrated.
The bottle carries Hampden's elegant cream label with The Maverick in script, and the gift box tells the story of the release. It is a must for rum collectors and a meaningful gift to mark a birth or new beginning.
