Hancock's President's Reserve is a single barrel Kentucky straight bourbon from Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, bottled at 88.9 proof. It is made from Buffalo Trace's Mash Bill No. 2, the higher-rye recipe, with roughly 12 to 15% rye.
The bourbon is named after Hancock Lee, who surveyed the site in 1775 where the distillery now stands. It belongs to Buffalo Trace's family of single barrel bourbons from Mash Bill No. 2, and at 88.9 proof it is the gentlest of them, with no age statement.
Expect vanilla, sweet corn and toasted pecan on the nose, with butterscotch, fudge and maple. The palate brings cinnamon, dark fruit such as plum and cherry, then pepper and oak, and the finish is slightly dry with caramel and spicy oak. As a single barrel, each bottle varies a little from the next.
The squat decanter-style bottle with its gold label and wax seal is a classic of the Buffalo Trace family and a fine gift.
