High N' Wicked Kentucky Straight Bourbon is a 5-year-old, high-rye, sweet mash straight bourbon, non-chill filtered and bottled at 104 proof (52% ABV).
High N' Wicked was founded in 2019 by W. L. Lyons Brown III and Kevin E. Sachs, two former Brown-Forman senior executives, to present ultra-premium whiskeys that honor traditional methods, and the brand is transparent about every detail. This bourbon uses a mash bill of 51% corn, 39% rye and 10% malted barley, fermented in a sweet mash, a rare method that sold at a premium in the pre-Prohibition era. Each grain is introduced in succession to save energy and water, and the mash is distilled through a 36-inch Vendome copper column still and doubler. It is aged a minimum of five years in seasoned, medium-toast new #4-char American white oak barrels, distilled, aged, blended and bottled entirely in Kentucky, and proofed to 104 after rigorous blind tastings.
Leather, pipe tobacco and rich oak lead the aroma. The palate balances rye spice, lightly toasted oak, light vanilla, Kentucky cream pull candy, a touch of white peppercorn, faint tobacco leaf and baking chocolate, in equal parts sweet, spice and dry.
The blue crest label makes it a bold gift for bourbon fans.
At 104 proof, a few drops of water open up the vanilla.
Serve it in a Glencairn glass.
It makes a robust Manhattan.
