High N' Wicked Kentucky Straight Rye is a 5-year-old, non-chill-filtered straight rye whiskey distilled at New Riff Distilling in Newport, Kentucky, bottled at 90 proof (45% ABV).
High N' Wicked was founded in 2019 by W. L. Lyons Brown III and Kevin E. Sachs, two former Brown-Forman senior executives, with the goal of presenting ultra-premium whiskeys that honor traditional methods. The brand is transparent about every detail. This rye is made from a mash of 95% rye and 5% malted rye, which begins with New Riff's limestone-rich aquifer water drawn from 100 feet below the distillery. It is distilled through an all-copper column still and doubler and aged five years in new toasted and charred American white oak barrels. Because it is non-chill filtered, some cloudiness may occur.
The palate is full and layered with bold character: a delicate sweetness of caramel and honey evolves quickly into rye spice, with cinnamon, peppercorns and a touch of chili pepper heat.
The red and gold crest label makes it a striking gift for rye lovers.
American rye whiskey is made from a mash of at least 51% rye and aged in new charred oak, giving it a spicier, drier character than bourbon, with notes of pepper, herbs and baking spice.
Straight rye must be aged at least two years in new charred oak.
A splash of water softens the spice and brings out the honey.
It makes a classic Sazerac with absinthe and Peychaud's bitters.
A large ice cube is perfect for slow sipping.
Pair it with smoked meats to echo its spice.
It is a great bottle for rye fans who value transparency.
