Jacob's Pardon Small Batch Recipe No. 3 is an 18-year-old American light whiskey bottled at cask strength, a towering 142.7 proof. Distilled from a mash of 99% corn and 1% malted barley and drawn from 211 uncharred new barrels, it is a rare, dessert-like whiskey of remarkable intensity.

Jacob's Pardon was created by father and son Marc and Jake Taub, with spirits authority F. Paul Pacult consulting on the blend. The name honours the Taub family's Prohibition-era ancestors, who were caught bootlegging in 1929 and later pardoned by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The brand focuses on light whiskey, a category that allows a high-proof distillate to mature in uncharred or used oak and develop delicate, sweet flavours over long periods.

On the nose come caramel-covered green apple, Cracker Jack, straw and butterscotch, with cinnamon, nutmeg and spiced honey. The palate is creamy, with caramel, vanilla fudge, cinnamon toast, red fruit and milk chocolate, and the finish brings vanilla frosting, butterscotch candies, lemon meringue and dry oak. Despite its strength, it is surprisingly sippable, and water rounds the edges.

The heavy bottle with its embossed script and number 18 badge is a striking addition to any shelf.

It is a remarkable bottle for collectors of rare and hazmat-strength American whiskey.
