JCB XO is an exceptionally old Grande Champagne cognac created by Jean-Charles Boisset, the Burgundy-born vintner behind JCB. It is a blend of cognacs aged between 38 and 42 years, drawn entirely from Grande Champagne, the most prestigious growing area of the Cognac region, and bottled at 40% ABV.
Grande Champagne sits at the heart of Cognac, and its chalky soils produce eaux-de-vie prized for their finesse and their ability to age for decades. An XO only needs to be aged for a few years, so a blend of cognacs that have spent close to four decades in oak is far beyond the norm. That long maturation gives the cognac its depth, smoothness and remarkably long finish.
On the nose, mature aromas of toffee, dark chocolate, leather and blond tobacco are lifted by hints of white flowers. The palate is very smooth, with fine, complex tannins, and the finish is extraordinarily long. It is a cognac to be lingered over, slowly, in the way only very old spirits allow.
The presentation reflects JCB's flair for style: a heavy, square crystal decanter in a deep red tone, with a red stopper and the JCB monogram, set in a dramatic red V-shaped case. It makes a striking gift and a statement piece in any collection of fine cognac.
