Jefferson's Ocean Aged at Sea is a one-of-a-kind bourbon aged aboard ships that travel across the world's oceans. This is Voyage 28, bottled at 90 proof (45% ABV).
Jefferson's was founded in 1997 by Trey Zoeller and his father Chet, a famed bourbon historian who wrote the book on Kentucky distilleries. Ocean was born from a curious experiment: what would happen if bourbon weathered extreme maritime elements? The constant rocking of the ship forces the bourbon deeper into the wood, while the sea air and changing climates caramelise the sugars in the barrel. Each voyage is numbered.
The result is a deep, rich bourbon with a hint of the sea. It opens with aromas of crème brûlée, sweet tobacco and sea spray. On the palate, caramel, brown sugar, cinnamon, sea salt and a hint of espresso lead to a smooth, lingering finish with classic Cracker Jack sweetness and coastal salinity.
A bourbon with a story from every port, it makes a memorable gift.
Enjoy it neat or in a timeless Old Fashioned.
Bourbon must be made in the United States from a mash of at least 51% corn and aged in new charred oak containers, and straight bourbon must be aged at least two years. Those rules give bourbon its characteristic sweetness, with caramel and vanilla drawn from the charred barrels.
