John Walker & Sons Celebratory Blend is a limited-edition blended Scotch whisky marking 200 years since John Walker opened his grocery store in Kilmarnock in 1820, bottled at 102 proof (51% ABV).
It is inspired by the release of Old Highland Whisky in the 1860s, the first Walker whisky to travel from Scotland to the four corners of the world, and the reason for the brand's iconic square bottle and slanted label. Made using only whiskies from distilleries that were operating at that time, and bottled at 51% ABV, the blend reflects the style of many Scotch whiskies before the early 1900s. It earned a gold medal at the 2021 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
It offers a flavour journey of sweet dried fruits, gentle spice and roasted nuts, with a soft pepper finish.
Presented in its commemorative box, it makes a fine gift for Scotch lovers.
Serve it neat with chilled water on the side.
Scotch whisky must be distilled and matured in Scotland for at least three years in oak casks, and any age statement on the label refers to the youngest whisky in the bottle.
A blended Scotch combines malt and grain whiskies from different distilleries; using only distilleries operating in the 1860s gives a window into the flavours of the time.
Bottled at 51% ABV, the blend carries more weight than a standard 40% Scotch, as many whiskies did in the nineteenth century.
John Walker & Sons is the top tier of the Johnnie Walker family, reserved for rare and limited blends.
Adding a little chilled water opens the dried fruit and spice.
