Joseph Cartron Le Vermouth Rouge is a red vermouth from Burgundy, bottled at 17.5% ABV. Joseph Cartron is a family distillery in Nuits-Saint-Georges, in Burgundy, established in 1882 and best known for its fruit liqueurs.
It is built on Burgundy Pinot Noir, with infusions of blackcurrant and black cherry, the fruits the house is famous for.
A blend of around twenty botanicals, including orange, cinnamon, ginger, Sichuan pepper, thyme, wormwood and turmeric, gives it warmth and gentle bitterness.
The result is rich and fruity, with dark berries and cherry, warm spice and a bittersweet, herbal finish, a distinctly Burgundian take on vermouth.
Its colourful label makes it a stylish bottle for the home bar.

How to Enjoy It
Serve Le Vermouth Rouge over ice with a slice of orange as an aperitif, or lengthen it with tonic or soda water for a light spritz. Its dark fruit makes it a superb Negroni in equal parts with gin and bitter aperitivo, and a rich Manhattan with rye whiskey and a dash of bitters. Try it in a Boulevardier with bourbon, or an Americano with bitter aperitivo and soda. It pairs beautifully with charcuterie, aged cheeses such as Comté, olives and roasted nuts. For a Burgundian touch, add a few drops of crème de cassis and top with sparkling wine. Like any wine-based aperitif, keep the bottle in the refrigerator once opened and enjoy it within a few weeks while it is fresh.
