Journeyman Last Feather Rye is the flagship whiskey of Journeyman Distillery, one of the few wheat-heavy rye whiskeys on the market, bottled at 90 proof (45% ABV).
It strikes a balance between the spice of rye and the sweetness of wheat, single distilled from 60% organic rye and 40% organic wheat and blended to profile for each batch. It is one of three Journeyman ryes to have been served a cease and desist over its original name; the distillery was left with nothing more than the last feather of that name, and it stuck. Every bottle still bears an RR as a small tip of the cap to the original.
The wheat softens the rye's spice into a smooth, approachable whiskey with gentle sweetness and a peppery edge.
The illustrated feather label makes it a story-filled gift.
American rye whiskey is made from a mash of at least 51% rye and aged in new charred oak, giving it a spicier, drier character than bourbon, with notes of pepper, herbs and baking spice.
Wheat-heavy ryes are rare, which makes Last Feather a distinctive choice for rye fans.
Organic grains are grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers.
Blending to profile keeps each batch consistent.
A splash of water brings out the gentle sweetness.
It works well in a Whiskey Sour, where the soft spice balances the citrus.
Its approachable style makes it a good introduction to rye whiskey.
