Juan Lobo Añejo is a 100% blue agave tequila from the Highlands of Jalisco, aged 22 months in American oak barrels and bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV).
Distilled in copper pot stills and fermented with Champagne yeast at NOM 1414, Feliciano Vivanco y Asociados, it is a perfect blend of luxury and grit.
A beautiful dark amber color leads to flavor notes of vanilla, plum, dried fruits and honey that finish with a bite of pepper. Tasting notes include cooked agave, oak, pepper, caramel, dried plum and honey.
The label with its wolf emblem makes it a bold gift for añejo lovers.
Añejo tequila is aged between one and three years in oak barrels of no more than 600 litres, long enough to add colour, sweetness and spice while keeping the character of the agave, which makes it a natural sipping tequila.
Tequila can only be made from blue Weber agave in five designated Mexican states, chiefly Jalisco, and the finest bottlings are made from 100% agave. Sipping tequila is best enjoyed from a narrow-rimmed glass that concentrates the aromas, at room temperature and without salt or lime, so the character of the agave and the barrel can come through.
Twenty-two months in oak is well beyond the one-year minimum for añejo, which gives the tequila its deep amber color.
Highland agave brings sweet, fruity notes that pair well with long barrel aging.
Champagne yeast adds a clean, bright edge to fermentation.
Serve it at room temperature in a snifter to let the dried fruit and honey open up.
