Jura 10 Year Old is a single malt Scotch whisky from the Isle of Jura, matured for 10 years in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels and finished in aged Oloroso sherry casks, bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV).
Jura is a whisky only Jura could make, born of its island and still bottled in a shape originally designed to withstand the roughest of journeys from its home. The distillery, established in 1810, crafts its spirit in exceptionally tall stills, and the 10 Year Old is a smooth all-rounder for the modern drinker.
After 10 years in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels, the whisky receives a finishing touch in the finest aged Oloroso sherry casks from Jerez, Spain, which bring gentle spice and sherry sweetness. The result is a rich, rounded balance of subtle smoky notes with a sweet sherry cask finish.
Copper gold in the glass, it shows vanilla, orange, cracked black pepper and dark chocolate on the nose. The palate brings nectarines, ginger, coffee and toasted almonds, with rich dark chocolate and vanilla cream throughout.
Enjoy it neat, with a splash of water or over ice, or mix a Scotch highball. It makes a fine introduction to island single malts. A few drops of water open up the orange and chocolate, and the sherry sweetness pairs nicely with dark chocolate, aged cheese or a slice of fruit cake.
