Kavalan, in Yilan County in north-eastern Taiwan, has become one of the most awarded whisky makers in the world. Taiwan's warm, humid climate accelerates maturation, so the bourbon casks bring rich vanilla and tropical fruit to the spirit in a fraction of the time it would take in Scotland.
Pale golden in colour, it offers clean, fresh tropical fruitiness with vanilla, coconut and spices, along with banana and nutmeg. The palate has a soft, well-balanced natural sweetness, with vanilla, oak spices, creamy barley and coconut, round and complex with silky smoothness, and the finish brings exotic spices.
