Knappogue Castle 16 Year Old Twin Wood is a triple-distilled single malt Irish whiskey, aged for a minimum of 14 years in bourbon barrels and then finished in Oloroso sherry casks to complete at least 16 years, bottled at 40% ABV.
It is crafted from 100% malted barley, distilled three times in traditional copper pot stills for exceptional smoothness, at the Bushmills distillery in Northern Ireland. Knappogue Castle traces its origins to Mark Edwin Andrews, who purchased the castle in County Clare.
The Oloroso finish adds nutty, complex sherry notes to the smooth, malty base. It won Gold at the 2016 Irish Whiskey Awards for Irish single malts aged 13 years and older, Gold at the 2023 Irish Whiskey Masters and 92 points from Wine Enthusiast.
A refined gift for anyone who loves smooth, sherried Irish whiskey.
Enjoy it neat or with a drop of water.
Irish single malt is made from 100% malted barley at a single distillery, and triple distillation, a hallmark of many Irish whiskeys, gives a lighter, smoother spirit than double distillation. Finishing in Oloroso sherry casks adds dried fruit, nuts and spice on top of that smooth base.
Sixteen years is a substantial age for Irish whiskey, and the long rest in bourbon barrels builds vanilla, honey and soft oak before the sherry finish adds depth.
