Kokoro Spirits Four-Grain is a barrel-strength blended American whiskey crafted in Louisville, Kentucky, by master blender Ashley Barnes and bottled at 112.6 proof. It was the first release from Kokoro Spirits, limited to 1,080 bottles.
The blend brings together three whiskeys across four mash bills: a 10-year-old Tennessee whiskey, a 7-year-old West Virginia wheat whiskey and a 6-year-old Indiana bourbon. Kokoro, meaning heart or spirit in Japanese, reflects the care behind the blend, and the whiskey comes in a minimalist white ceramic-style jug.
The nose brings baking-spiced orange creamsicle, and the finish offers brown butter, root beer and toasted marshmallow.
The distinctive white jug makes it a stylish gift for whiskey collectors.
Add a few drops of water to open up the fruit.
American whiskey covers a wide range of styles, from bourbon and rye to single malts and light whiskeys, and independent blenders and small producers have made it one of the most exciting categories in spirits.
Blending finished whiskeys from different states and grains lets a blender build a mash bill after the fact, combining the sweetness of corn, the soft breadiness of wheat and the spice of rye and malt in proportions no single distillery would make. Barrel strength keeps every one of those layers intact, so a splash of water reveals new aromas as the whiskey opens.
