Kokorodama World Malt is a 100% malt whisky from Japan Craft Distillers in Yushima, Japan, aged in ex-bourbon casks and bottled at 46% ABV.
Kokorodama, meaning heart, soul and spirit, was designed with the American whisky fan in mind: a world malt that is bold in flavour and strong in proof, and an ideal gateway to the world of Japanese whisky. It is crafted with traditional Scotch whisky methods and made with fresh local mountain water from nearby Mount Ibuki.
Smooth and balanced yet powerful, it brings rich malt, soft spice and roasted pineapple notes.
Presented in its distinctive bottle with bold calligraphy, it makes a fine gift.
Enjoy it with a drop of water, or in a classic Japanese highball.
Japanese whisky has earned a worldwide reputation for balance and precision, and limited releases from its historic distilleries are among the most sought-after bottles for collectors.
A malt whisky is made entirely from malted barley, and a world malt brings together malt whiskies blended to a house style, giving the blender freedom to build a balanced, full-flavoured whisky.
Ex-bourbon casks are American oak barrels that previously held bourbon; they pass on vanilla, coconut and caramel notes that suit a rich malt spirit.
The highball, whisky topped with chilled sparkling water over plenty of ice, is one of Japan's favourite ways to enjoy whisky, and a 46% malt keeps its flavour well when lengthened.
Mount Ibuki, on the border of Gifu and Shiga prefectures, is known for clean, soft mountain water, prized by brewers and distillers in the region.
Bottled at 46% ABV, Kokorodama keeps more texture and flavour than a standard 40% whisky, which is why a few drops of water open it up so well.
