Helios is based in Okinawa, Japan's subtropical southern island chain, a region better known for awamori and rum than for whisky. The distillery draws on that rum-making heritage, finishing this blended malt in Japanese rum casks that have been seasoning for up to 21 years, a technique virtually unheard of elsewhere in Japanese whisky.
As a pure malt, it contains only malt whiskies and no grain whisky. The rum cask finish brings a distinctly tropical sweetness to the malt.
