Lágrimas del Valle El Sabino Plata 2023 is an additive-free, single-ranch (Rancho Único) vintage tequila made from Blue Weber agave grown on the El Sabino ranch near Teuchitlán, Jalisco, bottled at 92 proof (46% ABV).
Lágrimas del Valle, "tears of the valley", applies the French winemaking idea of terroir to tequila: each vintage comes from a single chosen ranch, so the soil, flora, altitude and aspect of the land shape the flavour. El Sabino lies near Teuchitlán, home of the Guachimontones, the circular pyramids that are a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The tequila is made with the Rosales family, led by fourth-generation master distiller Salvador "Chava" Rosales Trejo, in collaboration with Tequila Cascahuín; the family's distilling expertise dates back to 1904.
On tasting, it reveals a harmonious blend of minerality and cooked agave, complemented by oregano and fresh herbs, with citrus and floral notes and a buttery mouthfeel that is both luxurious and satisfying.
A true expression of a single place, it makes a fascinating gift for tequila lovers.
Blanco tequila is bottled unaged or rested for less than two months, so it shows the agave at its purest: bright, peppery and fresh. It is the classic choice for margaritas and palomas, and a good blanco is just as rewarding sipped neat.
Tequila can only be made from blue Weber agave in five designated Mexican states, chiefly Jalisco, and the finest bottlings are made from 100% agave. Sipping tequila is best enjoyed from a narrow-rimmed glass that concentrates the aromas, at room temperature and without salt or lime, so the character of the agave and the barrel can come through.
