Laphroaig Willem by Willem is a limited-edition 14-year-old Islay single malt created with actor Willem Dafoe, finished in Oloroso sherry casks and bottled at 53.7% ABV without chill filtration.
Dafoe chose the whisky with Laphroaig's senior whisky maker Sarah Dowling, selecting the liquid that resonated with him personally rather than working from technical notes. True to that spirit, it was launched with a blank tasting-note page, inviting drinkers to define it for themselves, an idea Dafoe likened to a performance so complete it needs no direction.
Expect Laphroaig's signature peat smoke and seaweed brine, softened by the sherry finish into floral notes and caramel sweetness.
Presented in a white box with bold black lettering and Dafoe's signature, it is a collectable gift for Laphroaig fans and film lovers alike.
Taste it neat, then add water and write your own notes.
Scotch whisky must be distilled and matured in Scotland for at least three years in oak casks, and any age statement on the label refers to the youngest whisky in the bottle.
Laphroaig, founded in 1815 on Islay's south coast, is famous for its intensely peaty, medicinal style, still shaped by its own floor maltings and peat cut from the island's moss. Oloroso sherry casks bring dried fruit, nuttiness and sweetness that balance that smoke, and at full cask strength the whisky rewards adding water slowly, a few drops at a time.
