Larceny Barrel Proof Batch B525 is the second release of the 2025 series of Heaven Hill's wheated Kentucky straight bourbon, bottled uncut at 117.4 proof (58.7% ABV) and non-chill filtered.
Larceny Barrel Proof was the first line extension of the Larceny family, offering bourbon as the distillers taste it, straight out of the barrel. First released in January 2020, each release is six to eight-year-old bourbon, and like Larceny Small Batch it is made with 25% more wheat than competitors for a smoother taste.
It tastes of rich molasses that coats the tongue, with notes of fig and hazelnut, fading into lingering warmth.
Larceny Barrel Proof was the first wheated bourbon named Whisky Advocate's Whisky of the Year, in 2020, and won Best of Class from the American Distilling Institute in 2024. It makes a fine gift for bourbon lovers.
Sip it neat, then add a little water to taste.
Bourbon must be made in the United States from a mash of at least 51% corn and aged in new charred oak containers, and straight bourbon must be aged at least two years. Those rules give bourbon its characteristic sweetness, with caramel and vanilla drawn from the charred barrels.
A Kentucky straight bourbon is made from at least 51% corn and aged at least two years in new charred oak containers in Kentucky.
Wheated bourbons use wheat instead of rye as the secondary grain, giving a softer, rounder sweetness.
Barrel proof means the whiskey is bottled at the strength it came out of the barrel, with no water added.
