Laws Four Grain Bonded is a bottled-in-bond straight bourbon from Laws Whiskey House in Denver, made from four Colorado-grown grains and bottled at 100 proof (50% ABV).
This special offering of Laws' Four Grain was the first bonded bourbon in Colorado history. True to the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897, it is at least four years old, the product of a single season and a single distiller, and aged entirely in Laws' federally bonded warehouse. The mash bill is 60% corn, 20% heirloom wheat, 10% heirloom rye and 10% heirloom malted barley, from Colorado family farms, distilled in copper pot stills and aged in new 53-gallon charred oak barrels.
Sweet and floral on the nose, with black tea, honey and orange peel, it brings baked plums and black tea on the palate, a hint of orange coffee cake and a lingering sweet cinnamon finish.
Colorado's first bonded bourbon, it makes a fine gift for bourbon explorers.
Sip it neat or with a drop of water.
Bourbon must be made in the United States from a mash of at least 51% corn and aged in new charred oak containers, and straight bourbon must be aged at least two years. Those rules give bourbon its characteristic sweetness, with caramel and vanilla drawn from the charred barrels.
