High in Colorado's San Luis Valley, at around 7,400 feet above sea level, the Cody family has cultivated a low-yield, semi-wild rye grain since the 1930s. Laws fell in love with how it ferments and distils into a terroir-driven, unapologetic whiskey. For the cask strength release, Laws selects and marries individual barrels to fully express the robust flavours of this semi-wild rye, aged three years or more in new 53-gallon charred oak barrels.
Every batch has its own aromas and flavours. Laws' San Luis Valley rye is known for floral, perfumed aromas with baking spice and orange oil, and flavours of black tea, sweet mint, salted toffee, orange peel and stewed fig with a radiant green peppercorn spice, amplified here at full strength.
