Leopold Bros The Foeder Series 25th Anniversary Edition is a full-proof blend of the distillery's Three Chamber Rye and Maryland Style Rye, married in a large French oak foeder and bottled at 110 proof (55% ABV) with no water added.
The Foeder Series pays homage to the blending traditions of the American whiskey industry before Prohibition. For years, Todd Leopold toyed with the idea of blending the different styles of whiskey made at Leopold Bros into a limited release. Inspired by Scotland's vatted whiskies, married in large wooden casks, he turned to friends at New Belgium Brewing, who had a gigantic French oak foeder they were willing to part with. Blending the whiskeys in the foeder lets them mingle and mellow over time, developing additional complexity.
The stone fruit notes of the Maryland Style Rye meld with the lavender, baking spices and cocoa of the Three Chamber Rye, and the finish is complex, layered and silky.
Released to celebrate the distillery's 25th anniversary, it makes a memorable gift for rye collectors.
