Leyenda de México Extra Añejo is a long-aged tequila rested for nine years in American and French white oak barrels, presented in a matte black bottle with a gold cap and a bronze medallion. It is bottled at 40% ABV.
Nine years is three times the minimum for the extra añejo category, an exceptional age for tequila. It rests in a combination of American and French white oak for the whole of that time.
The bottle is as striking as the tequila: matte black glass, a heavy gold cap and a sculpted bronze medallion of a Mexican legend, making it a statement piece for any bar. A special edition is also made by Wixárika artisans of Jalisco.
It is a fine gift for a tequila collector and a bottle to open for a special occasion.

Extra añejo is the most mature category of tequila, created in 2006 for tequilas aged more than three years in oak barrels of no more than 600 litres. The long rest softens the agave's natural pepper and brings out caramel, vanilla and dried fruit, which is why extra añejos are usually enjoyed neat, like a fine cognac or whisky.
Tequila can only be made from blue Weber agave in five designated Mexican states, chiefly Jalisco, and the finest bottlings are made from 100% agave. Sipping tequila is best enjoyed from a narrow-rimmed glass that concentrates the aromas, at room temperature and without salt or lime, so the character of the agave and the barrel can come through.
