Mezcal Verás Joven is an artisanal Espadín mezcal from Santiago Matatlán, Oaxaca, bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV).
Verás promotes its mezcal with a simple phrase: Taste. You will see. The joven is carefully crafted to let the agave shine through, full of character while delivering a balanced experience whether you mix it or sip it.
The Espadín is roasted the traditional way, in a stone horno built of river rocks and heated with pine wood for three to five days. The cooked agave is milled with a horse-drawn tahona, then fermented for 15 to 20 days in open-air pine tanks with no added yeast, relying on the natural yeasts in the air. Finally it is double distilled in a small copper still.
The nose is buttery and fruit-forward, with honey, pollen, cantaloupe and cashews. The palate is balanced, with more cashew and honey, graham cracker and a touch of cinnamon, light yet rich in texture. It fills your glass with flavor but will never overpower your cocktail.
Mezcal is made by roasting agave hearts, traditionally in earthen pits, then crushing, fermenting and distilling them, a process that gives the spirit its characteristic smoky depth. Each agave variety and each village brings its own character, which is why enthusiasts love exploring small-batch bottlings.
