Lobos 1707 brings together two rich traditions, marrying founder Diego Osorio's centuries-old family sherry-making heritage in southern Spain with Mexico's national spirit, which he fell in love with. One of Osorio's ancestors sailed from Spain to Mexico in the 16th century with oak barrels that gave the local spirit a smoother finish, a story that inspired the sherry-cask finish. The brand has drawn an active investor group that includes LeBron James, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Issa Rae, Lindsey Vonn and Draymond Green.
The Joven is distilled from 100% Blue Weber agave in the highlands of Jalisco, aged for two months in American white oak barrels with a touch of Lobos reposado, and then finished in a PX sherry cask solera system, the method used for Spanish sherry. The blue of the label represents the most important element of the liquid: Blue Weber agave. It has won Gold Medals at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and the SIP Awards, where it also took Consumers' Choice.
A bright, elegant and complex nose brings sweet cream and dried cereal, fresh and dried grass, roasted agave, fresh pineapple and cantaloupe. On the palate, balanced herbaceous and light floral notes give way to yellow and orange bell pepper, Marcona almond, light white pepper and fresh melon, and the finish is long and balanced with a luscious mouthfeel.
It elevates a Margarita and is equally good neat or on the rocks. The 375ml size makes a perfect introduction or gift.
