Loco Ámbar is a limited production reposado tequila of measured, layered complexity, created through a highly artisanal process that uses a carefully balanced selection of new and aged barrels. It is bottled at 40% ABV.
Instead of resting in a single type of cask, Loco Ámbar spends six to eight months in each of several barrels, so the master tequilero can build the blend layer by layer. Casks that held Irish whiskey and stout beer contribute honey and roasted-grain notes, port casks add nuttiness, Pedro Ximénez sherry casks bring floral and herbal notes, and new French white oak contributes elegant spice.
The result is an innovative reposado that is elegant rather than heavy, with each cask adding its own thread: honey, roasted grain, nuts, florals, herbs and fine spice over the agave.
The bell-shaped bottle with its copper cap and red Loco script is presented in a box printed with tree rings, a nod to the wood that shapes the tequila. Released in limited quantities, it is a distinctive gift for an adventurous tequila drinker.
Pour it neat to explore the interplay of casks; it is a reposado unlike any other.
