Springbank is one of the very few Scottish distilleries that carries out every step on site, from floor malting its own barley to bottling, and it makes three distinct single malts: lightly peated Springbank, unpeated triple-distilled Hazelburn and heavily peated Longrow.
Peat is partly decomposed vegetation dug from the ground and burned to dry malted barley; its smoke soaks into the grain and carries through into the whisky as smoky, earthy and medicinal notes.
Bourbon casks add vanilla and honey, while sherry casks bring dried fruit and spice, giving the smoke a rich, rounded backbone.
