Luna Nueva Añejo is an all-natural, traditional añejo tequila from Jalisco, made from 100% agave and bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV).
Luna Nueva means new moon. The brand's story begins in Jalisco, the birthplace of tequila, on a dark night of the new moon in the sanctity of the mountains, where the dream of Luna Nueva was born. It is a romantic spirit, graced with style, class and a boatload of character.
The añejo pours a dark amber, with a velvety smooth body and an engaging bouquet of cinnamon, spice, vanilla and fresh citrus, with hints of mango and caramel. The palate is loaded with spice, butterscotch, cocoa, vanilla and light pepper, with tropical fruit and dried apricot, and the finish lingers for an agreeably long time. It won a Gold medal at the 2023 USA Spirits Ratings.
The black and copper label, with its new-moon emblem, makes it a handsome gift for añejo fans.
Añejo tequila is aged between one and three years in oak barrels of no more than 600 litres, long enough to add colour, sweetness and spice while keeping the character of the agave, which makes it a natural sipping tequila.
Tequila can only be made from blue Weber agave in five designated Mexican states, chiefly Jalisco, and the finest bottlings are made from 100% agave. Sipping tequila is best enjoyed from a narrow-rimmed glass that concentrates the aromas, at room temperature and without salt or lime, so the character of the agave and the barrel can come through.
