Luna Nueva Reposado is an amber-hued, limited-edition 100% blue Weber agave tequila from Jalisco (NOM 1414), rested in American oak bourbon barrels and bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV).
Luna Nueva's story starts in Jalisco, the birthplace of tequila, under the darkness of la luna nueva, the new moon. Its tequila master, 18th-generation Jalisco native Luis Cruz, uses a special, heavily guarded yeast and American oak bourbon barrels to achieve an elevated flavor and exceptional smoothness that captures the flavors of Jalisco. The agave is roasted slowly in traditional brick ovens before distillation and aging, and the tequila is traditional and all natural.
With a satiny, medium-weight body, it offers an alluring bouquet of vanilla, red currants, apricots, butterscotch and toffee. The complex palate brings zesty orange, toasted oak, tobacco, chocolate and cloves, and the finish is long, smooth and slightly spicy.
The crescent-moon label makes it a beautiful gift.
Reposado, meaning rested, is tequila aged between two months and a year in oak, which gives it a pale gold colour and a gentle touch of wood while keeping the agave bright and lively.
Tequila can only be made from blue Weber agave in five designated Mexican states, chiefly Jalisco, and the finest bottlings are made from 100% agave. Sipping tequila is best enjoyed from a narrow-rimmed glass that concentrates the aromas, at room temperature and without salt or lime, so the character of the agave and the barrel can come through.
