Luxardo London Dry Gin is an Italian London Dry gin from the celebrated maraschino house, distilled in traditional copper pot stills from nine botanicals and bottled at 86 proof (43% ABV).
Luxardo traces its history to 1821, when Girolamo Luxardo opened a distillery in Zara on the Dalmatian coast, today Zadar, Croatia, and the family became famous for its Maraschino liqueur. It has been producing a juniper-based distillate, ancestor of the modern gin, since 1833, when it first appeared on a company price list.
This gin revives and updates the family's original recipe, which goes back to the famous "Ginepro di Dalmazia" made by the Luxardos since the beginning of the 1900s. Nine botanicals, juniper, coriander, iris, angelica, licorice, cinchona, cinnamon, cardamom and bitter oranges, are left in alcoholic infusion for twenty-four hours, then distilled in the traditional copper pot stills. After nineteen days of refinement, the gin is filtered, diluted and bottled.
Bergamot and floral aromas lead, with leathery, piney juniper and rooty notes. The palate is dry with a soft mouthfeel: pronounced piney juniper, zesty orange, parma violet, black tea, gently assertive spice and faint ginger, with the licorice giving it a distinctive anise lift.
It is ideal with tonic water and shines in classic cocktails such as the Aviation, alongside Luxardo Maraschino, and the Negroni.
