Maestro Dobel Reposado is a 100% blue Weber agave tequila aged about six months in select new American white oak barrels, bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV).
Maestro Dobel was created in 2008 by Juan Domingo Beckmann Legorreta, the eleventh-generation leader of the Jose Cuervo tequila family; the name Dobel comes from the first syllables of his names. The tequila is made at the family's La Rojeña distillery in the town of Tequila (NOM 1122) with maestros tequileros Marco Anguiano and Luis Yerenas, and each batch is signed by one of the two maestros who blend it.
The agave comes from family-owned lowland ranches and is slow-cooked before double distillation. The reposado then rests in new American oak barrels that have been carefully chosen and roasted to bring out aroma and flavor, and tequilas of different vintages and stages of aging are combined for a fuller profile. The aroma mixes buttery caramel and fruit with cinnamon, almond and a slight hint of toasted wood, and the palate is sweet, nutty and vanilla-led, with a smooth, long finish.
Its weighty, gold-accented bottle makes it an easy gift.
Reposado, meaning rested, is tequila aged between two months and a year in oak, which gives it a pale gold colour and a gentle touch of wood while keeping the agave bright and lively.
