Manuscrito Reposado Chapter Three is an additive-free, single-estate reposado from the Highlands of Jalisco, rested in ex-Chardonnay French oak barrels and bottled at 85 proof (42.5% ABV).
Manuscrito is a limited-edition series in which each chapter tells its own story of agave craftsmanship and barrel ageing. Chapter Three is hand-crafted by master distiller Óscar Vázquez Camarena at El Sabino Distillery in Jesús María, from single-estate 100% Blue Weber agave harvested at six to eight years. The first batch rested over three months in ex-Chardonnay French oak, lending a buttery texture and a champagne hue while honouring the bold agave backbone Manuscrito is known for.
The nose brings warm cooked agave, rich butterscotch, honey and a gentle wave of vanilla and toasted oak. The palate is buttery and full-bodied, with oak, baking spice, caramel, cinnamon and a touch of white pepper, and the finish is medium-long, with lingering vanilla and oak.
A limited chapter for collectors, it makes a fine gift.
Reposado, meaning rested, is tequila aged between two months and a year in oak, which gives it a pale gold colour and a gentle touch of wood while keeping the agave bright and lively.
Tequila can only be made from blue Weber agave in five designated Mexican states, chiefly Jalisco, and the finest bottlings are made from 100% agave. Sipping tequila is best enjoyed from a narrow-rimmed glass that concentrates the aromas, at room temperature and without salt or lime, so the character of the agave and the barrel can come through.
