Martell VS is a fine, luscious cognac and the hallmark of the Martell style: remarkably smooth and fruity, bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV).
Founded in 1715, Martell is the oldest of the great cognac houses, and more than 300 years of expertise go into this blend. Maison Martell is alone among the great houses in double distilling exclusively clear wines, from which all the sediments and lees have been removed. This preserves the authentic fruity aromas of the grapes and gives the cognac its elegance, complexity and balance.
The current bottle is tall and clear, with the Martell swift embossed into the glass above the blue Martell block with its gold swift, the words Fondée en 1715 and the house crest, and a cream label reading VS Fine Cognac.
In the glass it is a rich, clear gold. The nose brings intense aromas of plum, apricot and candied lemon, and the palate is smooth and fruity, a rich aromatic experience with layers of ripe fruit and honeyed sweetness.
Versatile and approachable, it is made to be enjoyed however you like.
Cognac must be made from white grapes grown in the Cognac region of France, double distilled in copper pot stills and aged in French oak, with age categories such as VSOP and XO describing the minimum age of the youngest brandy in the blend.
