McCarthy's is made in the Islay tradition of single malt Scotch. Every McCarthy's single malt begins with 100% peated two-row barley sourced from Scotland, and the spirit is aged in Oregon oak. Clear Creek Distillery is now part of Hood River Distillers.

American single malt is made from 100% malted barley at a single distillery in the United States, and Clear Creek was among the earliest American distilleries to work in the style, releasing McCarthy's in the 1990s.
Peat is partly decomposed vegetation burned to dry malted barley; its smoke soaks into the grain and comes through in the whisky as campfire, earthy and maritime notes.
Oregon oak, Quercus garryana, is a native white oak of the Pacific Northwest with a tighter grain than most American oak, and it gives the whiskey its own spice and wood character.
At six years and 100 proof, this release is older and stronger than the standard McCarthy's, giving the smoke and oak more depth and presence.
