McConnell's 5 Year Old Irish Whisky is a blend of Irish malt and grain whiskies rested in select bourbon casks, from a Belfast brand first established in 1776, bottled at 84 proof (42% ABV).
McConnell's was founded in Belfast in 1776 by J & J McConnell and was a hugely successful brand for over 150 years before falling dormant. The Belfast Distillery Company revived it in 2020, immersing itself in Restoring The Legend, and brothers John and James McConnell would be happy that the business they built is once more in excellent spirits.
The revival has come full circle: McConnell's now has its own working distillery in the transformed A Wing of the historic Crumlin Road Gaol in North Belfast, once home to the city's most notorious inmates. The bottle nods to history too, from the spelling of whisky without an e to the Harp of Erin on the label and stopper.
Aged five years, the fine blend of Irish malt and grain whiskies is gently rested in select bourbon casks, bringing beautiful overtones of vanilla sweetness with the quality of the finest Irish spirit in the background. It is richly layered with sweet spice and dried fruit, with light, delicate notes of candied lemon, dried pineapple and spice: bold and complex.
