Mezcal Burrito Fiestero Joven is an artisanal mezcal made from Cenizo agave (Agave durangensis) at Hacienda Maguey in San Nicolás, Durango, and bottled at 42% ABV.

The agave is roasted in a volcanic-rock oven, fermented with ambient yeasts in wooden tanks and double distilled in copper alembic stills. Burrito Fiestero celebrates the wild agaves of Mexico's Wild West, and its One for One campaign plants a cenizo maguey for every bottle produced. Each bottle is hand-painted by a local artist.

With little smoke and a robust fruity profile, it is an approachable introduction to mezcal: expect agave, peach, tropical fruit and toasted pineapple with lactic, saline and slightly buttery notes, a touch of eucalyptus, and a finish of sweet smoke.

The hand-painted green bottle makes it a cheerful gift.

Sip it neat, or use it in a mezcal margarita.

Mezcal is made by roasting agave hearts, traditionally in earthen pits, then crushing, fermenting and distilling them, a process that gives the spirit its characteristic smoky depth. Each agave variety and each village brings its own character, which is why enthusiasts love exploring small-batch bottlings.

Mezcal and other agave spirits are traditionally sipped from a copita or a small clay cup, in small sips, often alongside orange slices dusted with sal de gusano. Many are made in tiny batches by individual families, so each bottle is a snapshot of a particular place, agave and season.
