Mezcal El Silencio Espadín is an artisanal 100% Espadín mezcal handcrafted in San Baltazar, Oaxaca, slow-roasted, naturally fermented and double distilled in copper stills, bottled at 86 proof (43% ABV).
Since its founding in 2013, El Silencio has been a trailblazer in the agave world, celebrated for its bold, contemporary style and artisanal craftsmanship, and its distinctive black bottle has introduced a new generation to mezcal. It is one of the top three mezcals by volume in the United States, and Espadín was the brand's first line extension after its original Ensamble.
Each batch is made from 100% agave, slow-roasted, naturally fermented and double distilled in copper stills to create a clean, complex and smoky mezcal. Espadín is the classic mezcal agave, and this expression highlights the heart of traditional mezcal making.
It is a robust yet approachable mezcal. Gentle smoke intertwines with bright citrus and earthy undertones, and notes of slow-cooked agave, roasted figs and sweet potato build a full-bodied profile that speaks to the depth and vibrancy of its agave roots.
Versatile by nature, it shines in cocktails, from a Mezcal Margarita to a Mezcal Negroni or an Oaxaca Old Fashioned, and can just as easily be enjoyed neat.
Mezcal is made by roasting agave hearts, traditionally in earthen pits, then crushing, fermenting and distilling them, a process that gives the spirit its characteristic smoky depth. Each agave variety and each village brings its own character, which is why enthusiasts love exploring small-batch bottlings.
