Mezcal Unión El Viejo is an artisanal, handcrafted, unaged mezcal from Oaxaca, a blend of Espadín and wild Tobalá agaves matured eight to fourteen years, bottled at 90 proof (45% ABV).
El Viejo is Spanish for the old man, a tribute to the old man from Oaxaca who inspired the founders to bring unity and collaboration to the world of mezcal. Mezcal Unión replants both agave species it uses and farms sustainably to avoid soil erosion, with the goal of using only agaves it has replanted.
On the nose are sweet, floral notes with smoke, mint, pine, butter, stone and new wood. The palate shows oak and cooked agave with flowers and dry, citrusy flavors, slightly smoky, with hints of mango, cinnamon, herbs and minerals.
