Minor Case honors the legacy of Minor Case Beam, a member of the famous Beam whiskey family who made rye before Prohibition silenced his stills. Limestone Branch, opened in 2011 by Steve and Paul Beam, explores what might have been had his production been reawakened. The bottle carries the crest Minor Case Beam used on his own labels, with the letters M, C and B hidden inside. The straight rye, a high-rye mash of 51% rye, 45% corn and 4% malted barley distilled in Indiana, is aged in new charred American oak and then finished in cream sherry casks imported from Spain.
Earthy notes with sweet sherry and dark cherry, dried fig, vanilla and a trace of tobacco lead the nose. Bold rye spice meets butterscotch, caramel, stone fruit and sherry on the palate, and the finish is smooth with dried fruit, toffee, cinnamon and soft oak.
